Iceland Geography Trip 2017

Science Insights is an exciting work experience programme from the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.
It runs from Monday 24th to Friday 28th July 2017.
Activities will include:
• Shadowing researchers in the workplace
• Tours of a range of scientific facilities
• Presentations, workshops and discussions on topics including research ethics, the use of animals in research and careers in science
• Opportunities to meet current University of Edinburgh students
• Skills session to help with future university & job applications

FAO S1-S3 pupils – Ethos Day: Thursday 29th June
Staff have been working very hard to ensure you have the chance to participate in your chosen trip/activity on Ethos Day (29th June). Unfortunately, some pupils have STILL not handed in their EE2 forms! These need to be completed and signed by a parent/carer and handed in NOW! Please note that if you haven’t handed in your form by Friday this week (31st March), you are at risk of being withdrawn from your activity. In this case, you will be expected to report to school as normal on Thursday 29th June and will not be able to take part in an activity. Don’t miss out – hand in your form now!

Apprenticeship Opportunity
IBM are hosting a National Apprentice Week event in their Edinburgh office on the 6th March. The aim of the event is to encourage people to apply for apprenticeships and to highlight how this can be a very successful career choice.
They would like to invite 5 pupils from your school between the ages of 15-18 to attend an afternoon workshop focussing on the skills they will require for future careers. The workshop will be run by two apprentices who will give their first hand experiences of becoming an apprentice and working in the technical/business world.
If you are interested, please let me know asap – places are limited.

On Tuesday 31st January during tutor time, all S1-S3 pupils will go to a meeting about Ethos Day with the leader of their trip/activity. Please check the lists in your tutor room for a reminder of which activity you have been allocated and for details of where your meeting is taking place. S3 Girls GCHQ CyberFirst Girls Competition
Teams of four girls are invited to work their way through a series of online cyber security challenges designed to test their ingenuity to the limit. This is a national competition where the top ten teams will be invited to an all-expenses paid ‘Grand Final’ and prize giving in London on 26/27th March 2017. Any girls interested please come along to Maths 7 on Monday 30th January during lunch to sign up!

School immunisation programme
Immunisation helps protect our young people and communities from a wide range of illnesses.
The NHS Lothian school nurse team carries out an annual immunisation programme, which includes:
The teenage booster Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio and Meningitis ACWY for S3 pupils and any in S4 –S6 who have not received this in S3. The immunisations will be taking place on Monday 20th March 2017. If you receive a consent form pack, please ensure you read this and discuss vaccination with your parent or carer. Please make sure you return the form as soon as you can (within 7 days please), signed by yourself and your parent/carer. Thanks
